Follow the steps below to upgrade to Windows 11. Image The Windows 11 Upgrade can be started on the University Windows Supported Desktop from the Software Center Computers require 10GB free disk space and that no Microsoft compatibility blockers are in effect for that computer's hardware or software. Go to Start and search for and open the Software Center. Select Applications on the left hand side. Search for Windows 11 Upgrade and choose to install it. This will start the upgrade utility and guide you through the rest of the process. Image The install will continue and ask to continue the upgrade, Select "yes" to continue or "no" to remain on Windows 10. The upgrade utility will now perform preinstall checks. Image If running Windows 11 already the upgrade utility will prompt to exit. Image If there isn't enough free disk space (10Gb), the upgrade utility will prompt to exit. Image If there is a hardware block it will be displayed in the upgrade utility with what the block is, the upgrade utility will prompt to exit. Image If there is a software block it will be displayed in the upgrade utility with what the block is, the upgrade utility will prompt to exit. Image If all preinstall checks pass, the required settings are updated in the background and the upgrade utility will display the computer has been set to upgrade to Windows 11. Select OK to continue. Image Windows update now takes over the upgrade process and will be displayed on the screen while it checks for updates. Image Once Windows update finds the required update it continues to download this. Please Note the download time of the update will depend on current internet speed and can take up to 2 hours to download, but you can continue to work until you are prompted to restart by windows. Image Once the update downloads it will proceed to install the update. Please Note the install time of the update will depend on current speed of the machine and can take from 45mins to over an hour to install, but you can continue to work until you are prompted to restart by windows. Image Once the update installs windows update will wait for a restart to finish the install. Image If the Windows update window has been closed a restart notification will pop up to allow the restart now or schedule the restart at a more convenient time.
