Instructions for setting up the Microsoft Authenticator sign-in method Microsoft Authenticator is an app for Android and Apple mobile devices. Whenever an application prompts for MFA, the app prompts for authorisation if an internet connection is available or can provide a one-time password. On your computer Login to the My Sign-ins website (external link) using your Edinburgh username in the format uun@ed.ac.uk and your login password. On the Security info page click + Add sign-in method From the drop down menu, select Authenticator app and then select Add Click download now and scroll down to the QR Code for your device. Take out your phone On your phone Image Scan QR code that is visible on your computer using your phones camera. Alternatively you can open your devices app store and search for Microsoft Authenticator app to install. The app is free and the official icon is on the right. This will take you to the install page on your phone, select Install Once the app is installed on your phone, complete the wizard When prompted, Select the option Scan a QR code Allow the app to access your camera and then go back to the My Sign-Ins screen on your computer. Click Next, and then Next again and scan the QR code shown on your computer screen Make sure to allow notifications Finishing off On your computer, select Next You will be presented with a 2 digit number. Return to your phone and enter this number in the box The Microsoft Authenticator app should now be approved as a sign-in method Self activation gives you the flexibility to secure your account today or ahead of schedule at a time of your choosing.
