On this page, we list key new features including recent additions to Teams, and updates which are coming soon. New Features Rolling OutAll new features rolling out to Microsoft Teams are in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. Things to consider when looking at new features:We're an education tenant with A1 and A5 licenses. We're on a general release timeline not an early release programme. However, users can opt-in to early preview of new features within their Teams app.We have a standard Teams license for Education, not Teams Premium. Documented features should state if they're only available with Teams Premium.Microsoft 365 RoadmapSome Useful Features Coming to Teams Move to Copilot Design We’re retiring the Designer bot and Designer banners in Microsoft Teams to streamline image generation capabilities. Moving forward, you can access enhanced image generation features through Copilot in Teams, where we will continue to invest and improve functionality. Collaborative Notes in Chats We’re introducing Teams Collaborative Notes (powered by Loop) in group chats across desktop and web experiences. This feature enables users to co-create and edit notes, agendas, and action items directly within the Teams chat interface, enhancing real-time collaboration without switching contexts. This message is associated with Roadmap ID 498159. Private Chat for Town Halls We’re introducing a private chat feature for organisers, co-organisers, and presenters in structured meetings and webinars in Microsoft Teams. This separate chat enhances collaboration by allowing key participants to communicate privately before, during, and after the event, without involving attendees. This message is associated with Roadmap ID 392328. Rule-based enablement of MS365 third-party apps This feature will empower administrators to manage the availability of trusted Teams apps based on rules for enhanced security. Admins will be able to manage Microsoft 365-certified apps in the Teams admin centre through a new control in Org-wide settings. You can further customise the availability of these apps based on permissions accessed and publisher names. The system automatically makes apps available after checking if they are certified and meet your conditions. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 485712. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure We are introducing a new Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) optimisation for Teams to replace the existing WebRTC-based solution. This update uses the SlimCore media engine to change how audio, video, and meeting features are handled in virtual environments. This provides a simpler media engine update experience for users, without requiring frequent upgrades of the VDI infrastructure or VDI clients. We will silently download SlimCore on the user's device, keeping you up to date without a need for user or admin intervention.By leveraging SlimCore, it offers the following:Advanced meeting capabilities:Gallery View 3x3 and 7x7User uploaded custom backgroundsInclude computer sound while screensharingHardware acceleration on the endpointCross Cloud supportTelephony and voice capabilities:Location Based Routing and Media BypassQoSHuman Interface Device (HID)Noise suppressionBetter supportability:Teams Admin CentreCall Quality DashboardMonitoring APIThis message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 518286.
