Introduction

An introduction to the User Testing Service

The User Testing Service helps software projects carry out, manage and track User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

UAT helps confirm that a system or service works as intended for its users. It allows project teams to identify functional, workflow, usability and other issues before a service goes live, supporting faster defect resolution and a smoother transition into live service.

The service is delivered using Requirements and Test Management (RTM) in Jira, which has replaced TestRail as the University’s tool for supporting user acceptance testing.

RTM allows project teams to:

  • Manage, organise and track testing activity in one central location within Jira
  • Create and assign test executions
  • Link requirements, test cases, test plans, test executions and defects
  • Track testing progress and outcomes
  • Reuse and update test cases for future testing
  • Provide evidence that testing has been completed

Detailed guidance on using RTM is available in the Jira guidance pages:
