How do I install software?

Details on how software purchased via the Software Services Team is distributed.

Internal orders

Check Main Software Deals before placing an order to make sure the order is going to the right place.

End users are normally contacted directly with details on how to access their software.

Orders are normally processed within a working week during term time upon receipt of an order, orders placed outwith term time or during a period of reduced service may take longer. 

Options for delivering software

Software Center

University Managed PC Desktops and Laptops can request installation of some software directly from the Software Center.  Once a licence has been granted, requests to Software Center will be approved.

A University managed device is any Windows or Mac device owned by the University of Edinburgh that you use in the course of your work. This could be a desktop computer or laptop.

Self-Service PortalUniversity Managed MAC Desktops and Laptops can request installation of some software directly from the Self-Service Portal. Once a licence has been granted, requests to Software Center will be approved.
Online PortalsPlease allow 5-7 working days.  Some software companies function overseas, and will require a longer wait.
Access to Download/CodesPlease allow 5-7 working days.  Some software companies function overseas, and will require a longer wait.
Image serverComputing Officers can request access to Software Services image server.  Software Services Team will be in direct contact.
External ordersSoftware Services Team will be in direct contact for any external orders done via the team.
