The Identity Management Service provides information on who in the University is entitled to access which services, for what purpose(s), and from where. Individuals attending or associated with the university are provided access to a rich and diverse range of Computing and IT services. In order to ensure that only those entitled to use a service have access to it, and to facilitate automated provision of these services the IDM is required to retrieve, interpret and distribute identity data. This data is supplied to platforms and service providers allowing them to create user accounts and provide services in a controlled and consistent manner. In this respect, the IDM can be considered a ‘black box’ system, designed to run in the background, facilitating the flow of identity data between systems. Support staff are able to perform basic administration tasks as well as view identity information via the IDM Portal. This article was published on 2024-10-08
