Register

Deciding on appropriate Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) authentication methods and registering them for use.

Preparation

  • Registering for MFA typically takes about 5-10 minutes.
  • We recommend you follow these instructions on your desktop / laptop and open external links in a new tab or window so you can easily return to the main instructions
  • Have your smartphone available (if you are using this as an authentication method)
  • We recommend device Operating System updates are completely up to date before you start

Registering an authentication method

We recommend that you register at least two authentication methods from the options below.

Microsoft Authenticator (Recommended option)

You will need:

  • An Android or iOS device: smartphone or  tablet.
  • Internet access if using authorisation prompts.

Why choose the Authenticator app?

  • The Microsoft Authenticator app is available on most smartphones and can work even if you don't have a phone signal.
  • Registering a second authentication method will reduce the need for you to contact the dedicated support team if your primary method is not available.

Download and install the MS Authenticator

Alternative authentication methods

Other methods of authentication are available. If you don't think MS Authenticator app is for you and you are not sure which authentication methods would work best for you, take a look at our guidance on choosing an authentication method.
