How to use the NEC DT700 Series VoIP handset to make, answer and transfer calls. Image Making and answering calls When you hear the phone ringing or see the indicator lamp flashing, lift the handset to answer the call. If you want to use the loudspeaker rather than the handset, press the Speaker key instead - this will activate the speaker in the telephone itself. You will also need to press the Mic key to turn on the built-in microphone so that your caller can hear you. To make a call, lift the handset and dial a six-digit University extension, or 9 followed by an external phone number. If you wish to use the loudspeaker rather than the handset, press the Speaker key, then dial the number. You will also need to press the Mic key so that the called party can hear you. When a call is underway, you can switch between the handset and the built-in speaker and microphone. To change to the loudspeaker, press the Speaker key, replace the handset, and press the Mic key. Both the Mic and Speaker keys will be lit. To change to the handset, lift the handset and press the Speaker and Mic keys so that they are no longer lit. (If you press the Speaker key before lifting the handset, you will terminate the call). To terminate a call, either replace the handset, or (with the handset in place) press the Speaker key so that it is no longer lit. Adjusting Volume and Contrast You can use the silver wheel on the phone to adjust the ringer volume, the audio volume or the display contrast. During a call, press the top of the wheel to increase the volume, and the bottom to decrease the volume. While the phone is ringing, use the wheel to increase or decrease the ring volume. When a call is not in progress and the phone is not ringing, the wheel controls the contrast of the display on some units. Transferring a call To transfer a call to another University extension, first warn the connected party and ask them to hold. Then press the Transfer key, and dial the six-digit extension number to which you plan to transfer the call. While that number is ringing, you may replace the handset - the connected party will hear the ringing tone and will be able to speak with the transfer extension when it is answered. Alternatively, wait until the transfer extension has answered. Warn the transfer extension that you are about to transfer a call to them, and replace the handset. If you decide not to transfer the call after speaking to the transfer extension, or if the transfer extension does not answer, you may press the Transfer key again to return to the original connected party.
