Sponsored connections

As a primary site on the Joint Academic Network (JANET), IS can offer sponsored connection of an organisation's computer network to JANET, and thus the Internet, via the University's network.

Organisations can only be provided with a sponsored connection if there is a clear benefit to the UK academic community, e.g. for collaborative research. This type of connection is normally restricted to research organisations, FE colleges, schools, academic libraries (but not public libraries) etc.

Once a sponsored connection has been established, the organisation may use the IS dial-up facility, at an additional cost, to access is own systems remotely.

An information pack on sponsored connections is available from the ITI Network Section of Information Services.

Please note: IS does not offer general internet access for private individuals.
