Windows 11 deployment to Supported Desktop Devices Windows 10 is currently used on all supported Windows computers across the University. Microsoft has announced the end of support for Windows 10 as 14th October 2025. Information Services are running a project to upgrade all the supported Windows desktops in advance of this deadline. Windows 11 is an evolution of the Windows 10 operating platform. The two platforms are very similar and the changes in Windows 11 are relatively minor. The upgrade process is straightforward and can be run either in the office or at home. Timeline From the perspective of university staff who use supported devices the main phases for the project are: The upgrade of the open access computers in Libraries, Lecture Theatres, Labs, Cafes, etc. is underway and will complete by the end of September 2024. All new supported Windows desktops will be built with Windows 11 from October 2024. The Windows 11 upgrade utility will be made available to all staff so they can upgrade their computers at their convenience from October 2024 through to end of January 2025. This allows staff to make the upgrade at a time that suits them. The remaining supported devices will be upgraded via a series of planned upgrades by areas (schools, business support groups) from February 2025 through to July 2025.
