ownCloud Desktop Client for Windows

The following instructions describe how to use the ownCloud Windows PC client software in order to set up a bi-directional file synchronisation between the University’s DataSync service and a particular folder on the local PC.

The following instructions describe how to use the ownCloud Windows PC client software in order to set up a bi-directional file synchronisation between the University’s DataSync service and a particular folder on the local PC.

Download

To download the client, navigate to the following URL and, under the 'ownCloud desktop client' section in the Table of contents, click on the 'Windows' link for the Windows client. This will take you to the Download link for the latest ownCloud installer package for Windows, which you can then double-click and follow the instructions to install.

Download the client, open it and then click 'Next' twice before choosing 'Install'.

Configure

  1. Once the install has gone through, press 'Next' and 'Finish'. By default, this should launch the ownCloud client and you will see the initial screen for adding the server address to which the client should connect.
  2. Please enter: https://datasync.ed.ac.uk and press 'Next'.
  3. Enter your DataSync username and password details, click ‘Next’ and 'Connect'.
  4. You have the option to click to open the local version of the folder you set up in the DataSync web interface in order to be able to start adding files to it to sync up, or you can open the web interface itself (denoted by the 'Open ownCloud' button. Click 'Finish'.
