This allows you to access to a range of services, some of which contain personal information about yourself and others. When you have finished using MyEd, make sure that you logout, and that you also logout from Your University Login and close your browser.Security tipsLock your computer if you need to leave it unattended while logged in.When using a public computer, use Private or Incognito browsing so that your username and password are not stored in the browser history.If in doubt at anytime, log out from MyEd and close the browser window.How do I make MyEd more accessible?You can use your browser settings to alter the appearance of MyEd to make it easier to read and navigate. A link with more information about how to do this is below.Customising our siteWhat are 'channels' and 'portlets'?Channels and portlets both refer to the blocks of content that appear within MyEd. For example, when you login you see the Email 'portlet', which shows a link to your inbox, and allows you to preview your email. In an older version of MyEd these blocks of content were called 'channels'. They are now called 'portlets', but you may see the term 'channel' sometimes.How can I customise MyEd?MyEd presents different information to different users; for example a student sees different content to a staff member.You can customise your homepage by using Favourites. Content that you favourite appears in the Favourites portlet on your homepage, making it quick and easy to access the content you use most often.Find out more about FavouritesOlder versions of MyEd allowed you to add tabs and change the portlets that displayed on some tabs. You can't do this any more but the new menu makes it easier to find and access content.Common ProblemsSome of the common problems that people experience when using MyEd.I'm off-campus and can't access some applicationsSome University services are only accessible to users who are logged into a computer that on the University network. This is to prevent unauthorised access.You can connect to the University network by using the VPN service.VPN registration and setupLinks in MyEd don't open, or a pop-up window was blocked by the browserMost web browsers have a pop-up blocker, which prevents websites from opening unwanted pop-up windows. Usually this is a good thing, but occasionally links in MyEd may be incorrectly blocked by your browser's pop-up blocker.If your browser is asking you to allow pop-ups from www.myed.ed.ac.uk, then go ahead and set this to "allow".You can also explicitly enable pop-ups for MyEd, or all University websites, in your browser:Find the "Pop-Ups" section in your browser settings or options menu. Specific browser help is available here.Add one of the following to the list of exceptions or allowed sites: - www.myed.ed.ac.uk - allows MyEd to open pop-ups, *ed.ac.uk - allows all University of Edinburgh websites to open pop-ups (recommended)Why doesn't my browser back button work?Your browser back button will work to get back to most content in MyEd. However, sometimes you may see an error message or a warning that the "page has expired". This is normally because the portlet you are using is a self-contained application.If this happens, click and hold on your browser back button. This will show you a list of pages you have visited recently.
