What you'll learn

This is a live, instructor-led course, delivered by Digital Skills Training instructor Bartlomiej Pohorecki.

This event aligns with the Information, data and media literacies competency on the University's Digital Skills Framework.

This introductory level course is suitable for all members of staff. There are no prerequisites for this event, and it assumes no prior knowledge or experience using Generative AI or accessing it via ELM.

 

Event description:

All University staff and students benefit from a free access to ELM (Edinburgh (access to) Language Models), which provides safer access to Generative AI. ELM was created and is managed by EDINA within the University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group.

This interactive course will introduce you to the basics of responsible use of Generative AI via ELM. It will cover:(below are bullet points)

What is Generative AI and how does it work 

What is ELM and how you can use it 

Ethical and privacy issues associated with Generative AI use 

Principles of responsible Generative AI use 

Practical, hands-on experience with ELM 

 

Instructor biography:

Bartlomiej Pohorecki is an instructor with the Digital Skills, Design and Training Team who delivers a wide range of training courses related to responsible, safe and effective use of Generative AI. In addition to his teaching role, Bartlomiej also aids the development of ELM, [University of Edinburgh's AI innovation platform, a central gateway to safer access of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) via Large Language Models (LLMs)] by designing built in safety features and providing AI Ethics insights.
