WebDAV

The following instructions describe how to set up a direct WebDAV connection to a pre-configured University homespace or shared space as a mapped drive on a desktop computer.

Unlike with synchronisation clients, this is essentially mapping directly to the DataSync server folder rather than having a local copy on the computer that synchronises up to it. Therefore, when working will files in the folder when connected via WebDAV, you should be conscious of the fact that you are working directly with the set of files on the server and not with a copy.

The instructions assume that you have already arranged via the IS Helpline to receive a DataSync account, have your password credentials, have set up a folder to sync in your homespace or shared space and have configured the DataSync web interface to point to that folder. Mapping a DataSync folder shortcut via WebDAV

Windows

  1. Open 'Computer' from the Start menu or equivalent location.
  2. Go to the 'Tools' menu and select 'Map Network Drive'.
  3. Choose a drive letter and type the following into the 'Folder' box.
  1. Make sure 'Reconnect at logon' is ticked and press 'Finish.
  2. Type in your DataSync username and password and press OK.

Your main DataSync folder should open as a mounted folder location and you can drag-and-drop files into and out of it as normal.

Mac OSX

  1. Click on the Mac's desktop to go into the Finder.
  2. From the 'Go' menu at the top of the screen, choose 'Connect To Server'.
  3. Type the following into the 'Server Address' and press 'Connect'.
  1. Type in your DataSync username and password, tick the box for the Mac to remember the details, and press OK.

Your main DataSync folder should open as a mounted folder location and you can drag-and-drop files into and out of it as normal. From the small folder icon at the top of the window that opens, you can drag a shortcut into the 'Favorites' location on the left of your Finder window.
