Clearing Web Browser Cache

Occasionally, background changes or issues with web pages may mean that their content needs to be fully refreshed for them to work successfully, and this can be hampered by the web browser's cache, which is stored to help speed up page loading times, but can become stale. Clearing the cache can help resolve these issues.

When should I try clearing my browser cache?

If you are finding that you are experiencing issues with websites or logging into particular web services, it can be a good idea to clear the web browser cache to attempt to sort this. The following are some example cases of when this might be appropriate:

  • A network outage has occurred and websites are not connecting successfully after the network has returned.
  • Links on Uni websites (e.g. https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk) are not reacting.
  • Content on Uni websites are not displaying correctly or have sections missing.
  • Websites are not loading quickly.
