Some card readers incorporate a numeric keypad, and may require a PIN to be entered. Having swiped a card, if an amber light is blinking on the card reader, or an LCD shows "Enter PIN", a four-digit PIN is required before the door will open. Some doors only require a PIN at certain times (e.g. outside normal working hours). The PIN is specific to the card, and is supplied when the card is issued.
