Sharing Tutor PC to Student Screens - EFI rooms only

Fusion rooms in Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) are primarily used for hybrid teaching, allowing multiple remote participants to join simultaneously. While the surrounding screens are not intended to mirror the main presentation screen, they can be used to share presentation content during in-person-only teaching.

The Fusion rooms in EFI are designed to support direct presentation and collaborative group work for classes that combine both online and in-person students. The screens around the rooms form part of the Microsoft Teams Room Trolleys (MTRs), which enable multiple simultaneous calls with different remote participants.

Although the rooms may look similar to teaching studios found elsewhere across the University, they operate differently. The screens are not designed to act as repeaters of the main presentation screen. However, we recognise that some users may wish to share their presentation across these screens when delivering teaching to an in-person-only class.

  1. At the start of the class log into the “In Room PC” at the teaching desk and then log into Teams you will likely require your 2 Factor Authentication. It is advised to mark yourself as busy to avoid popup messages. 
  2. Run the “MTR Auto Dialler” found as a shortcut on the desktop of the House PC.
  3. On the webpage page that pops up select the Room you are in.
  4. On the next page select or deselect the Trolleys required as repeaters in your room from the list. Then click either  “Teams App” or “Web Browser” as is your preference. We suggest you use the minimum number of trolleys to achieve your goal. 
  5. All of the selected Trolleys will begin to ring, they will time out if unanswered, if this happens you will need to re-add them to the call manually. 
  6. Accept the Call using the Touch Controller at each Trolley and then mute the Speaker and Mic each as they join. Turning the Cameras off reduces distractions. 
  7. Share your screen or window from the Teams call on the House PC, the trolleys should display this shared image, working as repeaters.
  8. Once finished with the “Screen Sharing” you can end the Call from the House PC, drop down arrow beside the Hang Up button. If you just hang up then the Trolleys remain in the call you will then need to then hang them up manually from their own Touch Controllers.

Naming Convention

The Name is on a sticker and displayed on the top left of the screens of each trolley. Trolleys can be called and added to meetings as if they are “People”. The names are constructed as “EFI[Room][Trolley]” so the 3rd Trolley in EFI 1.60 is called EFI16003. 

Single Trolleys

To use the MTR Trolleys for a group presentation at a single table, there is a Kramer Spider attached to each TAP touch panel controller. 

Connecting a laptop to this cable allows you to share the screen of that device on it’s MTR screen.
