Subtitling your media content is important to ensure that it is accessible to as many people as possible. All content uploaded to Media Hopper Create after the 11th of September 2024 will automatically be captioned in British English. Any content uploaded before this can have automatic captions requested using the guidance on this page. You can request automatic 'machine transcribed' captions for your content, which will appear on your videos and audio content stored on Media Hopper Create, the University's media asset management service. As these are fully automated, you will likely have to adjust them once completed to fix any incorrect matches, timing issues, etc. through a web interface. Either the owner of the content on Media Hopper Create, or someone who has been added as a 'co-editor' can request and edit captions. Requesting Captions Automatic captions can easily be requested for your content using the interface on Media Hopper Create. If you are the owner or a co-editor for a video or piece of audio, it is as simple as clicking Actions under the video player, then Caption & Enrich. Make sure you have read the information shown, ensure the correct source language is selected, and click Submit. For more information on adding someone as a co-editor on your content, see the guide - Collaboration, sharing and changing media ownership. Editing Your Captions Your captions can be edited and corrected using the online editor available on the Media Hopper Create portal. This allows you to fix any incorrect word-matches, timing issues, or add contextual tags. Training The Digital Skills team offers regular training which covers how to request and edit captions on Media Hopper Create, along with guidance on best practices and getting the clearest audio for more accurate automated captions.
