In summer 2019, we moved Learn from self-hosted to cloud hosting provided by the supplier, Blackboard. This change was primarily a behind-the-scenes change and provided us with 24/7 support for Learn and now allows us to take advantage of regular, monthly updates without any downtime. These updates include new features, bug fixes and security patches. When Learn was locally hosted, security patching and changes to Learn required downtime. Security patching would need to be completed as a matter of urgency and would require short-notice downtime which was particularly inconvenient to staff and students. Now that Learn is in the cloud, most work like this can be done behind the scenes with little or no downtime. Moving to the cloud was also a first step to allow us to enable our move to Learn Ultra This article was published on 2024-10-08
