Learning and Teaching Technologies

To support in preparations for Semester 1, we are offering regular taught training sessions via our Teaching Continuity Training for hybrid teaching.  This offers bite sized training sessions on the core tools supported across the University such as Collaborate, Learn and Media Hopper Create.

To help prepare courses for our students, the following training courses have been created, providing guidance on making accessible content, how to use Learn and much more.  All of the below links will take you to the Events booking page for the relevant training sessions:

• Learn basics: Training on the basics of using Learn
• Creating a course in Learn: Training on how to create a new course using Learn
• Increasing the accessibility of your teaching using learning technology: A workshop looking at accessibility and Inclusivity of teaching
• OER and Open Education: Information session to introduce the concepts of OER and Open Education
• Blogging for Teaching and Learning: A workshop discussing the benefits of blogging for teaching and learning

• Creative Commons Quick Start - A short introduction to using Creative Commons licences: This quick start, 30 minute information session will provide a brief introduction to Creative Commons.

• Subtitling for Media Creators - webinar: This webinar will introduce you to automated and manual methods you can use to add subtitles (closed captions) to video or audio files you have uploaded to Media Hopper Create.

The below training courses have been created to support in the preparations for providing feedback and managing assessments for our students:

• Assignments in Learn: Training session on creating assignments within Learn
• Online assessment and feedback using Turnitin Feedback Studio: Training session to support when using Turnitin Feedback Studio
• Learn Grade Centre - Introduction: Training session to provide and introduction and overview of the Learn grade centre
• Learn Grade Centre - Advanced: Follow on training session or the Learn grade centre to provide more advanced training and support
• Introduction to Questionmark Perception (QMP): Introduction to using QMP as an online assessment system

It is important to provide a sense of community for our students, whether they are on campus or online for their teaching.  The below training courses provide support and guidance in creating nurturing communities:

• Using groups in Learn: Training on creating and managing groups within Learn
• Communications tools in Learn: An overview of the comms tools available within Learn and how to use these
• Introduction to Top Hat electronic voting system: An introduction on Top hat and how to use this within your course
• Academic Blogging: Blogging to Build your professional Profile: A workshop to introduce the new academic blogging service

LTW offer the following, self-paced/trained courses to support in transforming your students experience.  These cover a variety of different skills and services, all aimed at enhancing your student experience:

• An Edinburgh Model for Online Teaching: An online, self-paced course offering an active, research led experience on a model of online teaching
• ELDeR: A practical, team based approach to learning design.  This is offered as a consultancy, on demand service which can be requested via the service pages
