The Learn Ultra Upgrade was the next step of the VLE excellence journey. Over the years, both staff and students had fed back on the usability of the original version of Learn and the challenges this could pose. The move to Learn Ultra happened across 2-steps: 2022: Ultra Base Navigation was enabled and Early Adopters engaged. This allowed for a new, fresh user interface (landing page) to be enabled for staff and students and provided a better user experience when navigating through Learn. All courses (with the exception of Early Adopters) remained on the original version of Learn. 2023: Learn Ultra Course View Enabled. In preparation for the 23/24 Academic Year, all courses were created as Learn Ultra courses. This changed not only the look and feel of the courses but also introduced some new features to help staff and students with the usability of the VLE. The upgrade to Learn Ultra provided the University with an accessible, usable and inclusive online space that delivers the best possible learning and teaching experience for our students and staff. Coupled with the addition of Ally, an add-on to help students and staff ensure teaching materials are as accessible as possible, Learn Ultra provides an online teaching and learning space that can help you develop and deliver courses true to universal design principles Evaluation of Learn Ultra The University of Edinburgh's Learn Ultra upgrade was a large-scale, institution-wide Change project that has enhanced the institution's virtual learning environment (VLE) to better serve its diverse student body and support its teaching and learning objectives.
