Assessment and Feedback

Learning Technology provides a range of digital tools to enhance assessment and feedback opportunities; helping to make assessment and feedback more accessible, timely, relevant and meaningful for all students. The following resources and training materials provide an overview of how to create, design and deliver assessments and feedback.

List of training sessions 

BadgEd is a new Service that staff can use to create and issue digital badges to learners.

This online session will introduce the Service, how to access it, how support is provided etc. The session will last for 50 minutes, including time set aside for Q&A.

  • Why awarding digital badges could be beneficial to your School/College, the University and learners
  • How to learn more about BadgEd including how you could get involved

  • Good practice after submitting work to Turnitin
  • Good practice after receiving feedback on your work in Turnitin

Questionmark Perception (QMP) is an online assessment system that is used for objectively-marked assessments (i.e. using questions where QMP can grade the student's submission). QMP can be used for both summative and formative assessments. There are over 20 question types available and options to leave detailed feedback and deliver this at a question, topic or whole assessment level. 

The QMP authoring interface is web based, opening out its full functionality to all staff at the University no matter their preferred computing platform.

This session provides an overview of how to make the most of PebblePad for some of the more complex blogging exercises (for learning and teaching) which might involve pre-structured forms, progress tracking, peer-review, rich feedback templates, etc. 

Apart from the relevant guidance and examples, the session will allow time for questions and answers.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Understanding of PebblePad’s pros and cons when used for assessment of blogs
  • Practical application of different types of assessment workflows for blogs in PebblePad
  • Overview of the ATLAS setup for managing assessed blogs in PebblePad
  • Hands on experience with the creation of the feedback templates
  • Basic understanding of day-to-day ATLAS housekeeping for assessed blogging (feedback release, user settings, reporting, etc.)

Course description 

The Turnitin Integration with Learn Assignments allows instructors to use Turnitin's similarity checker within a Learn assignment. The similarity checker compares the text in a student submission against an extensive database of websites, academic reference materials and previously submitted work, to produce a similarity score and a similarity report. 

In this 1-hour session we will cover the setup and management of the Turnitin Integration with Learn Assignments submission box. There will be a short presentation followed by a demonstration with time for questions and discussion at the end. 

By the end of this course we will be able to: 

  • Identify good practice in creating assessments.
  • Create a Learn assignment drop-box and understand its settings.
  • Add the Turnitin integration and understand its settings.
  • Access student submissions.
  • Release grades and feedback to students.

  • Edit existing question banks
  • Copy existing question banks 

This course focuses on using Turnitin Feedback Studio for staff who mark student work (it is not for students being marked).

  Learning Outcomes: 

  • Setting up Turnitin assignments in Learn
  • Interpreting Turnitin similarity reports and scores
  • Introduction to marking and feedback with Turnitin (including audio comments)
  • Using QuickMarks
  • Using rubrics
