Privacy Statement relating to Open Digital Badges, which provides information about how your data is used when you use the our service. Information about you: how we use it and with whom we share it The information you provide will be used by the University to provide an open digital badging service, which can be used for awarding open digital badges in recognition of non- or extra-curricular skills, achievements or competencies. The University uses an external company, Canvas Credentials (Instructure), to provide the service on the University’s behalf. The University holds information about everyone who uses the University’s version of Canvas Credentials, the Open Digital Badges service. This information is used to identify your level of access to specific areas and associated badges held within the system, report on the usage of an issued open digital badge, provide you with support, maintain our IT system, gather feedback, and for strategic planning purposes. The University is using information about you in pursuit of its legitimate interests to provide an open digital badging service to its students and staff or on the basis of contract in cases where an open digital badge has been advised as recognition of a non- or extra-curricular skills, achievements or competencies. Sharing information Information about you will be shared with Canvas Credentials and its sub processors, who process data on behalf of Canvas Credentials, to facilitate the service. These include Amazon Web Services, Amazon Cloudfront, Heroku, Inc., Hubspot, Salesforce and Twilio, Inc. (Sendgrid). The following sub-processors only collect administrators’ data and are opt-in based: Sharpen Technologies LLC, Asanan Inc., Formagrid, Inc. Detailed information is available on the Canvas Credentials Data Processing Addendum. Your personal data will be held in perpetuity unless either the University ends the contract with Canvas Credentials or you request your account is deleted. Account deletion requests are managed by Instructure by emailing privacy@instructure.com. IS may need to contact Canvas Credentials support which utilises a support management system hosted in the US. IS will endeavour to use minimal personal data when using Canvas Credentials support. The software used to send earners notifications of earning an open digital badge is US based. An email address is required to award an open digital badge. Transfers outside the United Kingdom Use of Canvas Credentials will include the transfer of personal data to data centres based in the UK/EEA and US and that Canvas Credentials may be required to disclose staff and student personal data to regulatory authorities in these countries without your or your students' consent and without giving you any right to object to this disclosure. Automated decision making We do not use profiling or automated decision-making processes. Some processes are semi-automated (such as anti-fraud data matching) but a human decision maker will always be involved before any decision is reached in relation to you.
