Staff Information

Information for staff about the University’s Lecture Recording Service, consent for use of intellectual property and privacy statement.

The University’s lecture recording service, Media Hopper Replay, allows you to record lectures and other teaching activities, and make them available to your students to review on demand. You can choose which sessions to record and can advise on how these are made available to students. When using the service you must:

  • ensure that students are aware when recording a session, for example by making a brief announcement at the beginning of the lecture; and
  • not infringe the intellectual property rights, including copyright, of any third-party works presented in your recordings. The University Library can provide you with guidance and support in relation to copyright.

Use of your intellectual property rights

If you own any intellectual property rights (including performance rights) in the material used within a lecture recording, you agree that the University may use these materials for the purpose specified within the Privacy Statement.

Moral Rights

If you wish to assert your right to be identified as author or performer then you are encouraged to do so as part of the recording.

Media Hopper Create Service

The University encourages teaching innovation, sharing and re-use of recorded lectures where relevant and appropriate. Where you have permission to do so from any third parties whose intellectual property rights are involved, including (but not limited to) copyright, author or performer rights, the University agrees that you may make your lecture recordings available in part or as a whole to wider audience groups by transferring them to the Media Hopper Create service. You are responsible for ensuring the appropriate license, attribution and accessibility arrangements for each transferred recording are properly obtained in accordance with the University’s Open Educational Resources Policy and Website Accessibility Policy.
