Four years ago the Web Hosting service relied mainly on two servers that the Service Manager describes as “old and rickety”. They now have four live servers on which nearly 800 different sites are hosted. This is more than double the number of accounts the service managed when Alain took over in 2012. What have Web Hosting ever done for us, I hear you say? Well, they host some of the university’s core sites as well as ones for research projects and blogs for members of staff. One site they host that might be of interest at the moment ahead of the June referendum is the European Futures blog. Another is Self-Help 4 Stroke which is does exactly what it says on the tin. Apart from the very practical elements of the system being more secure, easier to use and having the benefits of automatic patching and warnings, we have also found the service provided by Alain and his colleagues to be exceptional. It is fantastic getting the high level of communication that we do, it really helps to build confidence in the product and those involved.
