2025 Summer Internships

The Information Services Group (ISG) is running it’s 5th Summer Internship Programme this year, with a variety of part-time and full-time positions available. Applications open from the 24th of February 2025, for approximately one month. This year, there are over 50 internships available for University of Edinburgh students to apply for.

You can use this page to discover more about our internship programme, read through guidance on how to submit a top-quality application and book onto an internship application guidance session.

This year we have over 50 summer internships available across several sectors. These include Tech & AI, Communications & Marketing, Project Management, Heritage Collections and Data Analysis. Our summer internships are paid between £12.67 to £15.82 per hour, plus hourly holiday pay.

We encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as Widening Participation students. Working hours for our internships vary, so please carefully read each advert to clarify which position would suit you best. We have a range of part-time and full-time positions, and your preferences can be discussed at the interview stage.

To view all our summer internships, please see the Unitemps Website:

To apply to any of our upcoming internships you MUST be a current University of Edinburgh undergraduate student in your 1st, 2nd or 3rd Year of study. We will also accept applications from 4th year undergraduates in their penultimate year of study. We cannot accept applications from graduating students who will not be matriculated in Academic Year 2025/26. However, there will be one exception, and we will welcome applications from Postgraduate Taught students for one of our Internships - Graphic Design Intern.

ISG operates a hybrid working policy, so you must also be based in Edinburgh for the summer; we also do not allow any work to be undertaken abroad. We allow students to take a short holiday during the summer, so you can still apply even if you require some time off.

If you want to apply for any of our positions, you must do so through our Unitemps Website. We require an up-to-date CV and cover letter for all positions. You must apply before the deadline stated in the final section of the advert, any applications after the deadline will not be considered.

We highly recommend you take your time when applying for our internships this summer. They are highly competitive but by following the guidance available on this page, you will have a great chance of being asked to interview. You would be better to focus on a few internships that are well suited to your skillset and your future career plans, rather than applying to a large variety. For that reason, we advise that you apply for a maximum of 3 ISG internships.

Please see our Application Guidance document below for our best advice on how to write a quality CV, and a cover letter which will score highly when being assessed by our hiring managers. On the document, you will see a range of links we’ve provided, which we’d also recommend reviewing before starting your application.

We also recommend signing up for an internship introduction/guidance session, with details in the section below:

We highly recommend attending one of the sessions we are hosting online via Microsoft Teams in March, before applying for any of our internships.

These will last for a maximum of 45 minutes and are designed to provide information on our internship programme, support you in choosing an internship most suited to your skillset, and provide further guidance on writing a winning application based on what our managers look for. They will also include a Q&A session.

You will not be paid to attend these sessions, they are free and run by a member of the Unitemps team, and are there to provide you with the best opportunity to create a successful application for our internships.

Please see below the dates and times of our sessions, with links to sign up (you need to use your UoE student account to register):

Internship Guidance Session (5th March: 15:00pm – 15:45pm)

Internship Guidance Session (10th March: 14:30pm – 15:15pm)

Internship Guidance Session (17th March: 15:00pm – 15:45pm)

Alongside your position in ISG, we offer a variety of additional benefits, events, and opportunities to meet other interns and staff members. Please see below some benefits you’ll receive by being an ISG Summer Intern:

  • Being part of a vibrant and diverse community of over 50 ISG Summer Interns;
  • A broad programme of training and development opportunities, with sessions run across the summer by specialist managers across different sectors. Examples of previous sessions include: ‘An Introduction to Project Management’, ‘Coding from the Classroom to Your CV’ and ‘Neurodiversity and Adapting to the workplace’.
  • Many chances to network with employees and fellow interns during a range of social and networking events which in the past have included: picnics in the Meadows; pub quizzes; guided tours across the University (St Cecilia’s Hall for example) and Therapets
  • Ability to participate in the prestigious Edinburgh Award for Work Experience
  • A supportive, nurturing work environment with a strong emphasis on work/life balance
  • As a staff member, you can join the University's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion groups, including the Staff Pride Network, Disabled Staff Network, and the Staff BAME Network.

Most of our internships will start on the 2nd of June, 2025. The length of internships are varied, most lasting until mid-August.

All interns will be invited to a welcome lunch, where you’ll have a chance to meet fellow interns and university staff. Across the summer as you complete your internship, you’ll have opportunities to attend training and development sessions and a range of social events that you’ll have an influence in deciding on.

At the end of the internship programme, you’ll be asked to prepare a short, 5-minute presentation to your colleagues which will allow you to reflect on your achievements over the summer.

For some internships, there may be the possibility of extending into a term-time position (under 15 hours/week) however, that is very much dependent on team requirements and budget.
