Testimonials from our student workers and line managers on their experience of using Unitemps.

Hear From Our Students

What advice would you give fellow peers looking to get a job with the Information Services Group?

I applied through each of my internships through Unitemps, so that’s definitely a good place to start. If you discover a position that you think might be suitable to you, then just go for it – don’t let any anxieties hold you back! It can be easy to doubt yourself, but internships are designed to offer training and experience; it’s just as important to demonstrate your commitment and your passion as it is the skills you already have. Each of my ISG internships have been very different but I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learnt in subsequent positions and throughout my studies, and I can feel the positive impact they’ve had.

How do you plan to use this experience to benefit your future career?

Mentioning my experience as Project Management Administrator in internship and graduate scheme interviews always sets me up for a successful interview. During my summer internship, I am drawing from the experiences I had as a student worker to help me to achieve the milestones of my project.

Hear From Our Managers

The ISG student employment initiative gives staff the opportunity to work alongside University of Edinburgh students; get a student's perspective on our services and the work they do, as well as providing a talented and motivated resource.  Read the following case studies to hear what managers in ISG said about working with students,  the impact they had on their work and contribution to their departments.

What advice would you give staff who are considering recruiting students?

Do it! You won’t regret it. I think I’ve learned every bit as much from our student workers as they have from us so, as with all good things in life, the more you put into it the more you’ll get out of it. Co-creation is key – give them something to get their teeth into and see where they take you. Personally I found it incredibly energising!

What do you enjoy most from the experience of working with students?

I like teaching them about techniques we use on a daily basis to develop our software. I also like learning from them about what they are being taught in their courses, to ensure we are keeping up with the latest software development trends.

What do you enjoy most from the experience of working with students?

Personally I loved the experience of working with students again, and in a brand new area of IT support. I find their enthusiasm for the role and energy is infectious and I’m always looking for ways to challenge them and help them grow in the role.
