In response to feedback from a number of academic schools within the University, work is being done on a new way of presenting the workflow that applicants go through to become matriculated students. The transition from being an applicant to being a matriculated student often causes confusion for Online Distance Learning students (ODL). The Student Systems Partnership and IS Web Integration Teams are working closely with the academic schools to create a more user-friendly service. The project will focus on these key areas: Communication – Ensure relevancy to ODL programmes and consistency in the information sent out by central services on the hand, and the schools and colleges on the other. Such notices also bear in mind that these students will not be on campus. MyEd – work will begin on a prototype workflow to visualise the journey from applicant to student. This is to help applicants and news students better understand the steps they need to go through to become a fully matriculated student. Delivery – develop a plan to implement the prototype into the live system. First for online distance learning students, but the plan is eventually for this new workflow to be available to all applicants/students. Students and staff will have an opportunity to test the prototype and give feedback during the development phase. Updating these services will not only increase student satisfaction, it will also reduce the time University staff spend responding to routine queries from applicants and students.
