From 14 December, all new students will use the name based version of their email address as their default address. Mail that's addressed to the old format s1234567@sms.ed.ac.uk will still be delivered. The University wants to treat students as individuals, and one very visible way they fail to do this with Email and Diary has been the use of number based email addresses such as s1234567@sms.ed.ac.uk as the default address used by and to contact students.
