Upgrade of Web Hosting Servers successfully delivered

The current web hosting servers, which host over 600 University websites, have been upgraded to the latest operating system, CloudLinux7.

The project involved rebuilding the three servers, which previously ran on CloudLinux6, to run on the latest version of the operating system before migrating hundreds of websites to the new servers.

The website migration was carried out as three separate migrations occurring every two weeks, which allowed the project team to monitor progress and ensure that site functionality was not lost during the transition period.

Migrations went smoothly, with any issues resolved within 2-3 days after the migration. A post migration monitoring period was also carried out to ensure there were no further issues.

The upgraded system offers many benefits, including bug fixes, security updates and continued vendor support.

The Web Hosting Service, which supports 50% of the University Web Estate, provides a central hosting environment that encompasses a range of hosting solutions, from simple HTML websites through to standard web application hosting. More information about the service can be found on the Web Hosting Service page.
