A major project which was recently completed has delivered improvements to the university exam timetabling processes. Image First going live in June 2018 ahead of the August exam resits, the new exam scheduling system automatically generates personalised exam timetables for students. A new data connector was built which takes information on student exam enrolments and any special exam adjustments from the student records system, reducing re-keying and improving data quality. Previously, students had to find their own exam timetable information, by searching each of their courses online – and then manually adding their exam dates to their own calendar. This new automated solution is therefore expected to save students a lot of time. Using the new solution, each of the 20,000 students sitting exams annually at the University now receive personalised exam timetables delivered to their Office 365 calendar, which they can view on any device at any time. The project continues the successful partnership with Scientia and S2Unified, two software companies that specialise in timetabling and scheduling software for academic institutions. This project is the next step to building a complete institutional calendar for students. The Service Excellence Programme has already identified a range of other event types that a student would like to see in their calendars whether it be induction sessions, tutor meetings or assessment deadlines.
