IS Applications have recently initiated a project to build an Enterprise Data Warehouse.  This is the first step towards the provision of accurate, trusted and integrated data that will support decision makers across the University, while increasing the efficiency of business intelligence analysis and report generation.

The new project will deliver a functioning (but empty, to start with) data warehouse and associated support arrangements, ready to be populated by specific projects such as Estates Strategic Reporting. It will build on the previous work that established a Business Intelligence (BI) strategy and architecture.

The project will deliver an initial metadata model; scripts for an access layer; appropriate security settings; the necessary databases in Oracle 12c, and training for service staff. Project work will also encompass the production of support documentation and procedures, and policies for archiving and governance.  A planned follow-on project will procure data loading tools that will underpin the long-term running of the data warehouse service.
