The University launched a successful initiative to pair staff/alumni with current students for outdoor activities Prior to the winter break period, the University recognised a number of students would be staying in Edinburgh during the holiday with potential for feelings of loneliness and isolation. Image In response, to encourage a sense of belonging and support the wellbeing of students the University organised a programme of activities to keep in contact with others and access support they needed over the break. The SharePoint Solutions Service team was engaged to assist in delivering the Pair Up in Edinburgh initiative. This matched current students with staff and alumni to meet for an outdoor activity such as a walk, run or cycle. Survey feedback reflected an enjoyable experience for both volunteers and students who reported that the activity helped them feel part of the University, less isolated and helped them to learn more about the University and city. In light of the initiative’s success and positive feedback, plans are being developed to develop the Pair Up in Edinburgh solution as an ongoing programme.
