Digital Library Programme launches key project to implement a new Digital Asset Management System One of the key projects under Information Services’ Digital Library Programme launched to implement the software recently awarded for the new Digital Asset Management System (DAMS). The previous project, DLIB005, selected the Islandora software, procured from third-party supplier Born Digital, to provide the new system. In this current project, the Digital Library and Systems team will work with Born Digital to oversee the implementation, training and handover of the new software for use by the broader Digital Library team. In this implementation phase the project team will use the business requirements gathered from the previous procurement evaluation project to ensure the new system is delivered in a way that allows for the migration of data and a reliable, consistent system. The project plans to work with Born Digital to ensure the system is integrated with the current key systems of EASE and Goobi Workflow as well as migrate appropriate test materials and common workflows in order to establish a clear proof-of-concept for content and data migration to the new system. In addition, the project team will create metadata templates for content – establishing high level metadata requirements – and deliver appropriate training for use of the new software to the Digital Library Team and other teams within Library & University Collections. Ultimately, the project will focus on facilitating a smooth transition from management of the system from the Born Digital supplier to the Digital Library Team. Benefits of the new system include an improved search functionality for digital assets, reduced effort in comparison to the current system, better management of public and private images, increased systems integrations, opportunities for future library analytics, easier downloads of digital resources and assets, increased clarity on copyright status of items, persistent URLS enabling easier referencing of content, improved user satisfaction, increased engagement of digital content and support for a wider variety of file types.
