A raft of strategies for key areas in the University of Edinburgh’s services and systems have been approved by the Knowledge Strategy Committee. Image These key areas, known as IT Core Systems, comprise of applications essential to supporting activities across the University, such as Learn, Office 365, EUCLID, People & Money and Teams. The University’s Information Services department (ISG) strives to ensure these core systems work together to provide consistent, high-quality service to students, staff and other stakeholders. To achieve this, core systems strategies have been created to provide direction and guidance. These strategies apply to the procurement or development, implementation and operation of all core systems. The core systems strategies approved by the Knowledge Committee are: Application rationalisation – reducing the number of technology platforms and system suppliers. Application integration – using a common approach for passing data between applications. Cloud computing – managing the shift from on-premise to cloud computing. Data architecture – defining a consistent data model across the core systems. Identity, authentication, authorisation – enhancing the infrastructure services that core systems use to manage user access. IT Vendor management – improving the ways in which the University manages relationships with our vendors. Relationship management and CRM integration – two related strategies for consolidating and improving the processes and systems for managing relationships with University stakeholders.
