Whether you’d like to be an expert at Excel, a Wikipedia wizard or a proficient programmer there is something for everyone in our Semester 2 Digital Skills Programme. Our programme starts in January and runs right through to June with many courses taking place at our top of the range new training facilities in Argyle House. Courses are free to attend and most are open to all University of Edinburgh staff and students (see individual courses for any exceptions). Courses are generally bookable from four weeks ahead of the course date on the Event Booking channel of MyEd. We have some brand new courses running this semester including ‘Prezi Next: Introduction’. This is a two-hour course which will give you a hands-on introduction to the new Prezi presentation platform. You will learn how to make great presentations by using templates, adding text, images, YouTube videos and animating your content. For our staff members we’ve introduced a ‘Managing Course Copy and Migration in Learn’ course. Taking only an hour and a half of your time, you will gain an overview of how courses are created each year as part of the annual summer migration from one academic year to another. Plus you will learn what Rollover/Migration is and the different copy and backup approaches we have available in Learn. For those of you who may not be able to come along to our classroom-based courses we also have a variety of options for self-study, including our Media Hopper channel and web pages which include a catalogue of videos and course workbooks enabling you to work at your own pace. Also available to all staff and students is a free Lynda.com account giving you access to over 6,000 online courses to develop your digital skills. We have over 10,000 subscribers at the University already so why not join them and see what all the hype is about? Click here to create your account.
