New student hub launched for students and staff at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. Image The newly launched Dick Vet Student Union (DVSU) website has information on all the different class representatives, clubs, societies and events associated with the Dick Vet. Dick Vet Student Union website Collaborative effort Former DVSU president Faolain Barrett and Dick Vet Marketing Communications and Engagement Officer Tom Mortimer both worked closely with the Interactive Content team (Learning, Teaching and Web) to help develop their new online presence. Crucially, Faolain secured funding and co-ordinated student participation for this web development project. Interactive Content Service website Key requirements With a large portion of their student body not using Facebook, the DVSU were keen to have a WordPress website that allowed all students and staff equal access to important information. The DVSU also requested a bold, fun and colourful visual identity. The student committee selected one of several concepts presented to them and fed back on subsequent iterations. Image Student competition Over a two week period the DVSU held an open competition to design a logo for their new website. Fourth year veterinary studies student Melissa Zigler’s entry was the chosen winner. This design only required minor modifications before being incorporated into the final website visuals. Student ownership The current student committee wrote and supplied all the web content prior to launch. Since this committee changes annually and new DVSU information needs to be added regularly, the students themselves have full editing and administrative rights to update the website.
