The Learn Foundations Internship Programme has won the Anthology Catalyst Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging. The Learn Foundations Internship Programme, run annually by the University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG), has won the Anthology Catalyst Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging. Shortlisted against eight other nominees from across the world, this award marks the second Anthology Catalyst award for the programme, following its Blackboard Catalyst Award win for Student Experience in 2020. Learn Foundations initially ran as a three-year project which set out an approach to how the Learn VLE can be used to provide the best possible user experience of the platform through consistency, accessibility and inclusivity. From this project, an ongoing Learn Foundations Internship was launched. Each summer, ISG employ students to support key tasks, such as accessibility audits for Learn courses which support the University Strategy 2030 by ensuring that the university’s teaching is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to all, by making the VLE more user-friendly and inclusive. This award recognises how the Learn Foundations Internship Programme has leveraged technology to foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices by taking specific steps to rethink how learning is achieved and are using Learn solutions to ensure that pedagogy, content, and educational services are fully inclusive and supportive of all learners, providing them with equitable opportunities to succeed. Director of Learning, Teaching and Web Services and Assistant Principal Online Learning Dr. Melissa Highton said: "Congratulations to everyone who’s been part of this journey, and let’s continue to inspire and transform learning and teaching for the better."
