Hosting Pure in the Cloud

The Pure Application has been moved from being on premise to hosted in the Cloud, introducing numerous benefits.

Pure, the University’s Current Research Information System (RIS), has been moved from on premise to hosted in the Cloud, following the hosting of the Pure User web portal in the Cloud since 2021.

Because of this movement to the Cloud, there will be significant cost savings in resource and maintenance costs because of a reduction in technical involvement from Applications and need for upgrades in other infrastructure, such as Oracle Java. This also saves time spent on application maintenance, allowing staff to focus on other areas. The reliability of Pure will be enhanced due to the potential Cloud scalability not on offer before.

However, due to integrations between Pure and People and Money HR and Finance and EUCLID, among others, the PureINT database will continue to be on premise.

This was a very rewarding project, with the cost savings and reduction of manual hours spent on application improvement enhancing overall productivity.

This move has reduced the cost of the maintenance for Apps, and also made the RIS team more agile.
