Attending an edit-a-thon

Tips and guidance on attending an edit-a-thon.

If you are attending an edit-a-thon there are some simple steps that you can take to make the most out of the event. On the day there will be help available, but it is a good idea to make yourself as ready as possible.

  1. Bring a laptop or tablet to the event if it is in person. If it is a remote edit-a-thon, make sure you have a charger ready and a place to work!
  2. Register a Wikipedia account in advance. You will save yourself time on the day if you register your account in advance. This gives you time to think of your username (it can be related to you or completely anonymous, your choice!) and you can see how to do this earlier on in the website.
  3. Do some advance research. Wikipedia edit-a-thons typically have an event page where you can find out more information about the theme or topic for the day, including suggestions for pages to create or pages that need improving. You might want to think about what you will write about, start searching for online resources, and make notes to bring along on the day.
  4. Come prepared to have fun!
