Frequently asked questions about the University's LinkedIn Learning service. What is LinkedIn Learning? LinkedIn Learning is the market-leading online learning service offering over 17,000 courses and 250,000 videos in Creative, Business and Technology Skills. Visit our about LinkedIn Learning web page to find out more about the service. Is LinkedIn Learning free and who is entitled to use it? LinkedIn Learning is free to staff and students at The University of Edinburgh. The University’s subscription to LinkedIn Learning is not available for students who have yet to matriculate (start at the University) or are alumni. More information on entitlement can be found on our about LinkedIn Learning web page. How do I create my free LinkedIn Learning account and access the service? The easiest way to create your free account and access LinkedIn Learning is via MyEd - the University's main portal to services, however, you can also access LinkedIn Learning directly via their website, video/course links and the People and Money learning app (staff). In each case, you will need to log into your account using your University email, user number (UUN) and password. More information can be found on our account creation and service access web page. I've been asked to connect my personal LinkedIn account to my Learning account during sign-up. What does this mean and what are the benefits of doing so? During the account creation stage, you will be asked if you would like to connect your personal LinkedIn account to your new LinkedIn Learning account. Connecting your accounts is completely optional but will give you an improved user experience including personalised course recommendations, access to live events, access to a Q&A forum for each course and access to LinkedIn Learning content directly from your LinkedIn account. Forming a connection to LinkedIn will also make porting your LinkedIn Learning history across to a new learning account possible after you leave the University. To find out more about connecting your accounts, visit our connecting to LinkedIn web page. How do I use LinkedIn Learning? The Digital Skills and Training team regularly run introductory sessions to teach staff and students how to use LinkedIn Learning. In addition to these sessions, LinkedIn Learning also has some useful video courses explaining how to use LinkedIn Learning for skills development and teaching. Find out more about these resources on our training, help and support web page I've connected my personal LinkedIn account to my Learning account. Will my learning activity automatically be published to my LinkedIn profile? No. You have full control over sharing your LinkedIn Learning history and achievements to your personal LinkedIn Profile. Will the University's LinkedIn Learning administrator have access to view the activity on my personal LinkedIn account (if my accounts are connected)? No. The University’s administrator will only be able to see your learning activities such as courses/videos you’ve viewed on your University of Edinburgh-provided LinkedIn Learning account. How do I disconnect my personal LinkedIn and LinkedIn Learning accounts? If you wish to disconnect your accounts, please follow the steps under the 'Disconnecting your accounts' section located at the bottom of our connecting to LinkedIn web page. What data will be passed to LinkedIn and how will your information be used? When you use your University credentials to create your free account, your UUN (University user number) and affiliation (e.g. 'staff' or 'student') are shared by the University with the LinkedIn Corporation. This is the minimum data required to securely access the service. Full details including LinkedIn's data agreement and how your information will be used and stored can be found on our LinkedIn Learning privacy policy web page. Will I still be able to access LinkedIn Learning for free after I leave University? Yes, but only for a limited period. As you prepare to leave the University, your account will begin moving through its account expiry process, whereby your account will move through 3 stages: expiry, suspension and finally deletion. During this period, you will still have access to University systems and services, including LinkedIn Learning, however, this access will be lost once your account is deleted. Before reaching the deletion stage of the process, we recommend you connect your LinkedIn Learning account to a personal LinkedIn account to ensure that your learning history is retained. Whilst you will no longer be able to access LinkedIn Learning content for free after your University account is deleted, you will have the option to sign up for a paid LinkedIn Learning account with your entire learning history maintained. As the account expiry process varies for students (depending on your level of study) and staff, we recommend you refer to the University's Account Expiry Policy web page to find out how long your expiry process will last. I'm having trouble logging into LinkedIn Learning, accessing content or using the Service in general. What should I do? If you require help or support with accessing or using LinkedIn Learning, please follow the instructions on our help and support web page. I'm currently based in the Chinese Mainland. Can I still access LinkedIn Learning? Yes. Previously, users in China were prevented from accessing and using LinkedIn Learning, however, this is no longer the case. The experience might be slightly different to that of users outside of China, however, those in China should still be able to use LinkedIn Learning to access over 20,000 courses and 250,00 videos without issue. You can find out more about accessing LinkedIn Learning in China on this LinkedIn support page. Can I add my LinkedIn Learning course completion history to my People and Money staff Learning account? Yes. LinkedIn Learning courses you have already completed can be added to your People and Money account retrospectively. To do so, log into People and Money and open the Learning app. Search for the LinkedIn Learning course you have already completed (by title) and click on the Enroll button. Once you have enrolled on the course, it should (within a couple of minutes) show as 'completed'. The course should also be visible within the 'View Transcript' area of People and Money too.
