Interactive HTML5 content for EdWeb

Bespoke HTML5 interactives add enhanced functionality and visual design to EdWeb articles.

Overview

In early September 2016 the Interactive Content team completed two unique HTML5 resources that were subsequently embedded and published within EdWeb, the University's content management sytem (CMS).

Both these mobile-friendly HTML5 interactives added functionality and visual design elements not currently offered within EdWeb.

1) Student transitions interactive map

The interactive map has been produced as part of the University’s work on the student transitions Enhancement Theme. It is a snapshot in time of the wide variety of student transitions-related good practice which takes place across the University and aims to facilitate the sharing of this practice.

Built using Tumult Hype, this bespoke HTML5 object compressed a large amount of textual data into a structured and attractive infographic tool.

Stewart Lamb Cromar from the Interactive Content team worked in collaboration with Nichola Kett and Susan Hunter, both from Academic Services. Joanne Gordon from our sister Graphic Design Service provided the visual design concepts.

2) Strategic Plan 2016 navigational device

Coinciding with the web and print publication of the Strategic Plan 2016-21, this interactive SVG transformed a key graphic into a useful navigational device, providing links to multiple EdWeb pages.

Stewart Lamb Cromar worked in partnership with Gareth Overton from Communications and Marketing. Hookson, an external digital creative agency, provided the original static artwork.

Testimonial

Web, Graphics and Interaction were great to work with from start to finish. They produced our interactive graphic quickly and to brief, and always explained the challenges and solutions clearly, but most importantly they were really accommodating when text and images I was supplying were delayed or revised. Nothing was a problem and they always eased any logistical worries.
